A Roadmap to Understanding 504s and the IDEA

This 90-minute training is a basic overview for any advocate who supports youth and families who are or need to access support in the educational system. This training will review the rights afforded to every student under federal law and how this should be implemented by school systems. A more advances training will be offered later in the year to address more complex issues that may arise when advocating in educational settings.

CALM (Counseling on Access to Lethal Means)

Reducing access to lethal means, such as firearms and medication, can determine whether a person at risk for suicide lives or dies. This free online course focuses on how to reduce access to the methods people use to kill themselves. It covers how to: (1) identify people who could benefit from lethal means counseling, (2) ask about their access to lethal methods, and (3) work with them—and their families—to reduce access. This course is primarily designed for individuals who work with people at risk for suicide, like social service professionals and health care providers.

Child and Family Team 01

CFT 1 Revised is a two-day experiential training with a goal of providing an overview of Child and Family Team meetings from the family's perspective. The training seeks to reinforce the idea of "one family, one plan" by addressing Child and Family Teams through the lens of multiple systems as they affect families in their everyday lives. Agency representatives and parents/family members over 18 years of age are encouraged to attend this training. Sessions must have a minimum of 10 participants. Please do not schedule other appointments during this training. When you register you are agreeing to attend both days. Participants must be on camera and interacting for the entire training to receive a certificate. This is one of the required trainings for the National Certification for Family Peer Specialists (CFPS).

Engaging Youth in Residential

Family Support Partner 101

By attending this FREE five-day training, you will learn how to use your personal experience parenting a child who has mental health or substance abuse issue to support other parents. This training is designed to meet the Family Partner 101 requirement component toward National Certification as a Certified Family Peer Specialist. The structure of the training is a three-day training with two day follow up. Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, evidence-based, goal-oriented method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence with the individual. This active, skill-building workshop provides participants with knowledge of the spirit, micro skills, and strategies of the model, and provides opportunities to practice the approach. Participants will complete the workshop with a good understanding of MI, and are encouraged to take the Intermediate and Advanced MI workshops to develop proficiency in this method.

System of Care in NC From the Family Perspective

System of Care (SOC) in North Carolina, is not a program; it is a philosophy of how care should be delivered. The goal of this training is to explore authentic, practical ways to implement SOC cross-systems within agencies, programs, and communities. Participants will learn the aspects of the history of SOC federally and within NC. Participants will also, leave with an understanding of the importance of family and youth involvement and understand the values of NCSOC and the value of cross-system family, youth, and agency partnerships.

Trauma Informed Supervision for Youth and Family Peer Support Partners

Trauma-Informed Supervision is a 1 and a half day virtual training intended for current and future supervisors of Family and/or Youth Peers. In this training, attendees will learn about the types of supervision and practical skills to implement Trauma-Informed Supervision. By the end of the training, attendees should understand the role of Youth Support Partners and Family Peer Specialists, be able to identify best practice guidelines for supporting Youth Support Partners and Family Peer Specialists in the workplace, identify trauma-informed supervision strategies, and share information to prepare your agency in successfully employing and sustaining Youth Support Partners and Family Peer Specialists.

WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan)

This Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) One Day Training for family partners is designed to provide practical tools and strategies for parents and caregivers to prioritize their own mental health and wellness, which is vital to supporting their child's mental health journey. Topics covered include exploring key WRAP components, identifying triggers and early warning signs, building a support network, creating a crisis plan, and developing personalized wellness tools. Through interactive and engaging activities, participants will have the opportunity to connect with other parents and caregivers and gain a deeper understanding of how to support their own mental health while also supporting their child's. By the end of the training, participants will have a personalized WRAP and crisis plan in place, ideas of potential wellness tools to use to maintain wellness, along with a deeper awareness of their own mental health and wellness needs as a parent caring for a child with mental health concerns. This is a required training for the Family Peer Specialist Certification.
